Environmental Geochemistry Laboratory (EGL)
Rapid geochemical test technologies, customised laboratory analysis and field-based technical services, from standard test methods through to industry-leading laboratory and remote monitoring techniques, data validation and interpretation options.
All tests are designed to provide high-quality data to address key regulatory, planning, closure and rehabilitation risks related to reactive materials and water quality impacts.
In addition, several software tools have been developed to assist with the rapid and un-ambiguous classification of geochemical hazards.
Services provided

Mineralogical analysis by Quantitative X-Ray Diffraction and integration with geochemical test work programs and data interpretation.

Static geochemical test work programs and procedures to predict acid, metal and salinity risks related to sulfidic materials.

Kinetic test work programs and procedures (including oxygen consumption tests, column leach and humidity cell tests) to measure sulfide oxidation rates, acid generation rates, the onset of acid conditions and metal pollutant release rates related to sulfidic or other reactive minerals.

Design, development and implementation of field and laboratory water quality test work programs to assess surface water, groundwater, process water and supernatant water.

Customised bench tests, pilot scale tests and field trials for water treatment process design, AMD and mine waste management, remediation, and other applications (eg. material decomposition, neutralisation, odour and gas emissions, CO2 release).

In-house, custom and off-the-shelf software tools to facilitate analytical data QA/QC and interpretation such as ImpactScan, AMDact, TreatSim and ABATES.
